Tim 'mithro' Ansell

I build open source silicon ecosystems β€” creator of the SkyWater SKY130 & GF180MCU open PDKs and Google's Open MPW shuttle program (>1,000 tapeouts, >40% by first-time designers). Now founder & CEO of wafer.space.

πŸ” What I'm working on

  • wafer.space β€” Founder & CEO, 2025 - Present. Community silicon pooling service β€” GF180MCU multi-project wafer runs that get custom chips manufactured from a few dollars per die, rebuilding low-cost fab access after the collapse of Efabless.
  • fpgas.online β€” Co-conspirator (with Carl Karsten), Present. A remote FPGA lab anyone can use from a browser β€” a rack of real Arty dev boards with live camera views of the LEDs, free for experimenting with real hardware right now.

Earlier projects β€” TimVideos/HDMI2USB, F4PGA (SymbiFlow), LiteX, Tomu/Fomu and more β€” are on the projects page.

πŸ™ On GitHub

On GitHub since 2008, with 568 public repositories. Some popular ones under my own account:

Repository ⭐ About
kicad-mini-pci-express 109 KiCad library and templates for creating designs with Mini-PCI-express cards (both the cards and sockets).
autolabeler 105 Add labels to Pull Requests based on matched file patterns
actions-includes 73 Allows including an action inside another action (by preprocessing the Yaml file). This is how composite actions should have worked.
kicad-pmod 43 KiCad Library to make it easy to create both host boards and expansion boards and which are compatible with the Digilent "PMOD" specification.
python-datetime-tz 36 Drop-in replacement for Python datetime which deeply cares about timezones.
kicad-length-matching-checks 27 Couple of scripts which checks length matching of your KiCad design.

Most of my open source work lives in shared organisations: thousandparsec, sydney-linux-user-group, timvideos, sydney-linux-user-group-dependencies, events-everywhere, freecores, im-tomu, fupy, SymbiFlow, litex-hub, hdl.
